A Day in My Life As a Blog and Email Writer: Pregnancy Edition

I’ll admit, I’m a TikTok lover through and through.

I’ve tried to stop the scroll, but my algorithm has actually been super helpful lately and I undoubtedly find myself in a scroll hole every afternoon during my obligatory couch rot session after my daily walk.

By now, we’re probably all familiar with the day in the life videos and I’ve gotta give it to the girlies – they are putting in the WERK to create those each day.

And I for one am glad they do because I love watching them!

I’m a nosy gal and I want to know what your morning routine is, what you’re reading right now, what you’re eating for lunch, what errands you’re running today, allll the things.

While these videos can of course cause comparison and all of that jazz, I don’t really feel that way when watching them. I just truly love an inside peek to what people are up to!

It’s also because I’m slightly obsessed with routine and productivity, so I like to discover new things that I can implement.

If you follow me on the ‘gram, you’ve probably caught on to that by now. I love sharing my routines and I love when I find a new time management hack.

But I’ve gotta be honest: since being pregnant, my routines have changed A LOT.

A typical day in the life once looked like this and I LOVED that routine so much.

But things are looking superrrr different for me lately, so I thought it would be fun to do an updated version of my day in the life here on the blog.

Of course some weeks differ based on meetings, projects or life things I need to do (like baby appointments!), but for the most part, my days go a little something like this. ⬇️

6:30-7:00am: Wakey wakey ⏰

I used to be a 4:30ish am girlie and I’ll be honest, that was really hard for me to give up.

But soon after I got pregnant, I realized my body NEEDS way more sleep, so I had to stop fighting it.

And turns out, my productivity isn’t tied to the time that I wake up – that was a big thing for me to learn.

7:00-8:00am: Morning routine 📖

My morning routine means that I stay in my cozies and plop down in my office chair to start my daily Bible reading and prayer journaling.

This is hands down the best habit that I EVER started and it’s the one that’s really stuck with me through all seasons of life.

On the days where I skip this (which are very few) I can feel it. I’m a much better human when I stick to this rhythm.

Some mornings I’ll follow my prayer journaling by reading a chapter of a business book that I’m currently reading, but it just depends on the vibes that I’m feeling!

And because I’ve been SO hungry during pregnancy, I’ll usually eat breakfast during this time too – lately I’ve been back on my smoothie grind.

8:00-8:30am: Get ready for the day 💄

I pride myself on being able to get ready in 30 minutes or less. I simply don’t have time (or want) to spend an hour or more doing my makeup and hair each day.

I’m a pretty simple and basic girl which means that I’m an outfit repeater, have my makeup routine down pat (it’s nothing to brag about), and I’ve never parted ways with my hair straightener, so basically I always look the same.

One thing that’s been really important to me during pregnancy is that I actually get ready *most* days so that I feel human.

Even if that means my go-to Old Navy maternity leggings, a graphic tee, and my makeup done, that's a win for me!

While I’m getting ready, I typically listen to a podcast – lately The Skinny Confidential has been a go-to. 🎙️

8:30-9:00am: Coffee + admin work ☕️

One of the best things that I did for myself was STOP drinking coffee first thing in the morning.

Even before I got pregnant, this was a habit I really wanted to break because #health, but being pregnant made this even more important for me.

I’ve decreased my caffeine intake a TON (big fan of decaf now!), but I still like to have something warm in the morning to match the cozy vibes that I love so much.

After getting ready, I’ll brew my first cup and sit down at my desk to sift through emails, file away any newsletters that I love into my Good Reads folder, review my task list for the day (I plan this out ahead of time on Friday or Sunday afternoons for the following week), and review my calendar to make sure I plan correctly for any calls.

9:00am: Start work 🖥

The actual work I do varies each day, but it of course involves a lot of writing. ✍🏼

I have deliverables every week for my done-for-you blog package clients and then there’s always a mix of one off projects that I’m typically working on.

Each week also typically has a few calls mixed in - whether that’s a potential client discovery call, a 1:1 strategy call, or a co-writing Wednesday with my Writer’s Room members.

And then there’s of course the things I do for my own business – like weekly blog writing, newsletter writing for Notes From Natty, working on things for The Writer’s Room, or dreaming up a new project.

I’m still trying to create an ideal work week because in a perfect world I would have certain days designated to certain clients, so that my brain can stay focused on one industry at a time.

This is a work in progress and while it’s definitely gotten better than when I first started my business, I’m currently in a season of having to get ish done, so I can’t be as structured and streamlined as I prefer.

Plus, I know that once I have baby, that schedule will change again, so I’m not stressing about it too much right now and instead am simply doing what needs to be done!

12:00-12:30pm: Brain break and lunch 🧠

If you’re a business owner and you primarily work from home, I cannot stress this enough: TAKE A REAL LUNCH BREAK!

Step away from your desk, close the laptop, and give yourself a true break just as you would if you were at a 9-5 job.

Doing this has been a game changer for me and bonus points if I can get outside for some fresh air during this time too!

While I’m eating, I usually let myself scroll TikTok or Instagram depending on what’s going on.

But don’t underestimate the power of pure silence – big fan of that too!

12:30-3ish: Back to the grind ✍🏼

Most of the time I’ll heavy load the first half of my day with the tasks that require the most creativity or thinking, so that my afternoon can be filled with things that don’t require as much of my energy.

This is what works best for me, but I know that some people are wired the exact opposite.

By 2:30ish, my creative brain is zapped, so knowing this about myself, I structure my days so that I can start winding down my day fairly early without feeling guilty about it.

Sometimes, I have to power through for a bit longer, but most of the time I can make it happen and it feels soooo good!

By 3pm, I’ll review what I accomplished for the day, take note of what still needs to be done, and adjust my to-do list for the next day so I know exactly what to expect when I wake up tomorrow.

3:00-4:00pm: Errands, chores and daily walk 🚶‍♀️

I always save the last half of my day for running errands, doing chores and usually a daily walk!

In March of 2022, I committed to “mile a day March” and that’s when I picked up the habit of my dailyISH walks.

I try to take a walk at least 3 times a week, pending weather and how I feel.

On the days that I go for a walk in the afternoon, it’s so refreshing because it clears my brain from everything and allows me to re-energize to spend the rest of the evening with my husband!

4:00-5:00pm: NOTHING 🎉

When I get home from my walk or running errands, I love giving myself about an hour to simply do ✨ nothing. ✨

I used to feel really pressured to fill every second of my days with more productivity, but as humans, we just need a dang minute sometimes!

During pregnancy, I’ve found this to be especially true, so I allow myself to sit on the couch, mindlessly scroll, or watch a TV show that I’m loving at the moment.

5:00-8:00pm: Dinner and fam time 🍽️

My love language is quality time, so it’s always been important that me and my husband sit down to enjoy dinner together every night. This is when we get to catch up on our day and just have conversation without being distracted by our phones or TV.

I typically cook dinner every night (my husband does the dishes because that’s a chore I LOATHE) and then we follow that with a TV show, board game, or just enjoy each other’s company before our early bedtime.

8:30-9:00pm: Skincare and wind down 🧖🏼‍♀️

By about 8:30 or 9, I’m ready to get in the bed, so I’ll do my skincare and start winding down for the night.

Lately, I’ve been trying to get into the habit of journaling and reading before bed. It’s definitely not perfect, but it’s a work in progress that I’m really enjoying!

9:30pm: Lights out 😴

Thank God I married a man that doesn't mind going to bed early.

During pregnancy, there have been times I’m in bed by 8pm or even earlier, but on a typical day, we’re rarelyyyy still awake at 10pm.

And there ya have it – my typical [pregnant] day in the life as a blog and email writer.
