7 Different Types of Blog Content You Can Create
When you think about blog content, what’s the first thing that comes to mind?
For some people, I bet it’s the longgggg, drawn out recipe posts that all food bloggers flood Pinterest with.
For others, it’s probably the posts that their favorite influencer publishes each week that’s full of LTK links to overpriced Amazon clothes.
I get it – these are the people who have been in the blogging world for quite some time, so it’s normal to think that this is simply the nature of blog content.
But what if I told you that ANYONE can have a blog? Better yet, I believe that if you’re a business owner or service provider, you’re missing out on a huge opportunity if you DON’T have a blog.
If you’ve never created blog content before, it can feel overwhelming.
I have to write how many words?
How is this supposed to be structured?
Wait, what do I even write about?
All good questions, but let me first say: it doesn't have to be difficult.
If you’re already creating content elsewhere (like on social media for example), you already know EXACTLY what type of blog content to create.
The difference is that now you’re simply going to make it longer form.
And no, that doesn’t mean you just add in extra fluff to make it to a certain word count. It simply means that you actually get to dive deep into a topic because you aren’t limited to characters and can say what you really want to say without having to edit it 17890 times so that it will fit into a caption box.
The super cool thing about your blog content is that you get to mix up the style of content you create, too. Something I believe to my absolute core is that your blog content does NOT have to be boring and you can make it whatever you want it to be!
So, whether you’re new to blogging in your business OR you’ve been doing it for quite some time and need some help thinking outside the box, below you’ll learn 7 Different Types of Blog Content You Can Create to fall in love with blog content, one post at a time.
How-To Posts
How-to style blog posts are probably one of the most common types of blog content that you see and can be some of the easiest to create.
In fact, for people who are brand new to blogging in their business, this is one of the first places I recommend they start.
This style post is exactly what it sounds like – you’re guiding someone through how to do something that relates to your industry.
For blog content of this sort, you’ll likely write in a step-by-step, instructional format so that your reader can very easily follow along and actually implement the information you’re providing.

Listicles
Another popular blog content style are listicles, and I’ve gotta say… I love myself a listicle!
This style post is where you take a specific topic and present the information in a list format, typically featuring a compilation of items, tips, ideas, or examples.
The reason I’m such a fan of this style of content is because it makes it super easy for your reader to digest and skim in a way that’s concise and organized.

Educational / Informational
While most of your blog posts will likely be considered educational and informational, the reason I wanted to list this as its own separate style is because sometimes the SOLE purpose of your blog posts will be to do just that: educate and inform your audience about a topic related to your niche.
No selling, just educating.
Other times, however, your blogs might educate on a certain topic and then directly point people to an offer of some sort.
I’m a big believer that your blog can be both – a nurture platform AND a sales platform.
But for this style of blog content specifically, you’ll be leaning heavier on the nurture.
Essentially, educational or informational blog posts aim to provide valuable insights, facts, or explanations on a particular topic. These posts often dive deep into a topic that might be confusing or hard for your audience to understand.
More than anything, this type of content aims to provide ultimate value and share knowledge with your audience, so that they feel more equipped about a certain subject by the time they’re done reading it!
➡️ Example: A Blog Writer’s Take on ChatGPT
Interview Style Content
When you think of interviews, you likely think of podcast episodes or video content, but don’t get it twisted – you can absolutely create interview style content in a written format.
Sure, you might lose some of the conversational tone that naturally comes across via audio, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be done!
If you really want to feature conversations with experts or other individuals that are knowledgeable about a specific topic that relates to your industry on your blog, this style of content can be a great way to do it.
These posts typically include questions posed by you as the interviewer and responses from the interviewee, offering your readers a unique twist on traditional blog content while also providing fresh perspectives, insights, and firsthand experiences.

Diary Style Content
Don’t let the word “diary” throw you off here! There is a way for you to create diary style blog content in a not-so “dear diary” way.
In fact, this style of blog content can be some of the MOST fun to write because you’re essentially providing a personal narrative, reflection on past experiences, or a behind the scenes look into something specific for your life or business.
It’s no secret that people love a good glimpse into other people’s lives – it’s why many of us get stuck in the scroll hole of TikTok watching GRWM’s and DITL’s.
And again, while this type of content might feel like it should be reserved for video, I’m a big believer that ANY type of content can be transformed into a blog, so here’s your permission to give it a go!
➡️ Example: A Day In My Life as a Blog and Email Writer (Pregnancy Edition)
Checklists
As humans, most of us LOVE a checklist. It’s the reason that we will literally write something on our to-do list just so we can check it off. Talk about a dopamine hit. 😂
Knowing this, you can imagine that checklist style blog content is very popular and it typically will be among your highest read content for your audience.
Similar to listicles that I mentioned above, checklist style posts are practical and actionable that outline a set of tasks or items for a specific topic.
It’s important to note, however, that your checklist style blog posts shouldn’t JUST be a checklist. Instead, make sure that each item you list is accompanied by further explanation or tips so that your audience fully understands the meaning behind it.

Client Case Studies
Lastly, if you’re a service provider, client case studies are an excellent style of blog content that gives you the ability to display your portfolio in a leveled up way.
Client case studies showcase real-life examples of how your product or service has benefited a client or customer and typically includes a detailed story of who your client is, what they were struggling with before they came to you, the solution they invested in and the work you did to help them achieve XYZ.
Blog content like this allows you to display social proof and testimonials in a way that tells a story versus just posting a client quote or screenshot of them singing your praises.

And there ya have it – the 7 different types of blog content you can create!
Please note that this is not an exhaustive list and there are definitely other types of blog content that you can create, but this list gives you a great starting point if you’re just starting out or feel stuck for new ideas.
