3 Steps To Creating Your Unique Brand Voice with Guest Expert: Jessie Frasier
Oh my gosh. I’m nervous!
Hey! Hi! Howdy! I’m Jessie, the founder of First Rodeo Creative.
Before we get into it– can we talk about how Natalie truly is the QUEEN of blogging? I’m not just saying that, either. Her content really lit a fire in me to want to start blogging on my own website, and when she asked me to guest write while she’s away doing strong mama things, I was like… welp. I guess this is my sign to finally get into blogging! So if y’all creep my website later this spring and don’t see a blog page, you have my permission to come for me! Hold me to it!
I’m obsessed with long form content, blogging specifically, for a multitude of reasons. The first reason? Ya girl can talk. And I mean, TALK. The gift of the gab, they say! Best believe I’m gonna do the mOST when writing with a character or page limit!
The second reason? I feel like long form content is the best way to connect with your audience, aside from actual, factual, IRL connections. What better way to understand who I am and what I’m about than reading multiple paragraphs that came straight from my head and onto this computer screen?
Long form content is the perfect vessel to implement your unique brand voice. (You already know I’m gonna use this guest spot to gab all things brand voice, bb.)
As a messaging strategist and copywriter, my entire job revolves around crafting brand voices that have that it factor that just clicks with your audience, that extra something that makes people feel like you actually read their mind.
Just like a siiiiickening visual identity, your brand voice sets you apart, telling your story in a way that resonates with the people you want it to resonate with.
This goes beyond mere words on a page; it’s the essence of your brand’s personality, vision, and values.
It’s what makes your audience feel like they’re not just engaging with a business, but with a trusted close friend, or with the girl who hypes you up in the bar bathroom, or with a content creator you’ve never met but you trust them with your life when it comes to home decor recs (yes, these are all briefs I’ve gotten when creating messaging strategies. We love a hyper specific description!).
This emotional connection is pivotal in building trust, loyalty, and a sense of community around your brand.
In the digital age, where everyone is bombarded with content, a unique brand voice helps you cut through the noise. To bring people into our little brand universes, we love a stunning logo or a website that does things you didn’t even know websites could do, but once they get past the visuals, what’s encouraging the customer to stay?
Wordsssss, baby! Your VOICE! Your brand needs a voice that speaks directly to the hearts and minds (and yes, wallets) of your audience.
Whether it’s in a blog, on social media, on packaging, in a pitch deck– your voice should be consistently you.
“But Jessie… I know what a brand voice is. I know what I want to say, I’m just not good at saying it. What do I do?” Ugh, I’m so happy you asked, miluv!
To truly hone in on your unique voice, and to translate it into a consistent brand voice, I always recommend these three steps:
Reflect on Your Core Values
Start by identifying what matters most to YOU and, as a result, to your brand. What are the non-negotiables that define your business?
These values are the foundation of your brand voice, guiding every piece of content you create, every tagline, every witty one-liner on your packaging. By aligning your messaging with your values, you ensure authenticity and consistency (buzzwords, I know, but I promise you– they matter!), making your brand more relatable and trustworthy to your audience.
Know Your Audience Intimately
Understanding who you are speaking to is crucial! Conduct market research, create customer personas, and actually engage with your audience to learn their language, pain points, desires, etc. Tailoring your brand voice to speak directly to your audience's needs and preferences will make your messaging more impactful and engaging.
Practice, Practice, Practice
This is the step everyone loves to skip. Developing a unique brand voice is an ongoing process! Experiment with different tones, styles, and formats in your content to see what really resonates with your audience. Collect feedback, analyze engagement is relevant, authentic, and in tune with your evolving audience.
By focusing on these steps, you can craft a brand voice that not only stands out, but also genuinely connects with your target audience and truly feels like your voice, fostering a strong and loyal community around your brand.
At First Rodeo Creative, we celebrate the rebels, the renegades, and the hellraisers kicking up dust in their industry. Our approach to brand messaging is grounded in the belief that a unique voice is your most powerful asset.
It’s what draws your audience closer, inviting them into your world and making them feel at connected to more than just a product or a service.
So, to the gorgeous, intelligent, creative entrepreneur reading this– let this be your sign to hone in on and embrace your brand voice with confidence! It’s just as crucial as your visual identity (if not more so, but don’t tell the brand designers I said that).
